Like the pet lovers, volunteers and employees who care for shelter cats and dogs, Bayer is committed to keeping pets happy and healthy. That’s why we created the Bayer Blueprint Shelter Partnership, a pet health and wellness program that provides high quality Bayer products to participating shelters nationwide to support their efforts along the way to pet adoption. To show our gratitude to our shelter partners, Bayer Animal Health is contributing $30,000 to three shelters based on participation in the second annual #ShareforShelters contest. Wayside Waifs Engages Community to Generate Funding Through National Social Media-Driven Campaign
Kansas City, Mo. (December 5, 2016) – Bayer Animal Health announced the results of their second annual Share for Shelters social media campaign. Share for Shelters highlights the special bond between people and their pets through the sharing of photos, while benefitting shelters and rescues. Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, Mo., has earned the top spot and been awarded $15,000. Great Plains SPCA based in Merriam, Kan., and SPCA Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay, Fla., came in second and third, receiving $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.
The campaign, which kicked off on Sept. 1 and ended Nov. 14, directly benefitted 26 Bayer shelter partners nationwide. The participating shelters encouraged their communities to share photos showing their love for pets using the hashtag #ShareforShelters on social media. Supporters of participating shelters shared more than 8,700 photos on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Bayer awarded funding totaling $30,000 to the three shelters that generated the highest number of photos shared through ShareforShelters.com during the campaign.
“Bayer acknowledges the important role that animal shelters play in the lives of cats and dogs,” said Lauren Dorsch, senior manager, Communications, Bayer Animal Health. “The Share for Shelters campaign supports critical organizations like Wayside Waifs in their mission to keep pets healthy on their journey to their forever homes.”
Wayside Waif’s efforts to engage their community in the Share for Shelters campaign paid off – literally. The shelter plans to use the $15,000 contribution from Bayer to fund 3,000 spays and neuters, which is expected to cover almost all spays and neuters the shelter performs in 2017.
“We are honored to receive the top contribution from the Bayer Share for Shelters campaign,” said Geoff Hall, President, Wayside Waifs. “This gift enhances Wayside Waifs’ success in saving thousands of abandoned, abused and homeless animals. In addition, the campaign celebrates the amazing bond that is created between pets and people.”
